As well as consulting directly with clients, I am an Associate at Complete Strategy, a boutique strategy consultancy offering services in strategy regulation and programme management.
Led two successful five-yearly regulatory price reviews for Anglian Water involving:
I am closely involved in ongoing price reviews in UK gas distribution as a member of Customer Engagement Group for Cadent Gas and in UK electricity distribution supporting UK Power Networks.
Developed Anglian Water's commercial and operational strategy towards the potential new water retail market in England, establishing a profitable new business in the existing Scottish market: one of the top 3 retailers by market share. AnglianWater leveraged this experience to shape the subsequent opening of the much larger English market and secure a first-mover advantage in this market. I led the Board through its decision-making considering scale of opportunity, threats and risk, business case and organisational design and implementation.
I devised and led a new approach to customer engagement in regulatory price controls which has subsequently been adopted as standard in the water and energy sectors. This involved creating independently-chaired Challenge Groups of customers and other stakeholders to provide scrutiny and challenge. It enhanced stakeholder relationships, helped secure successful price review outcome. The approach was taken forward as standard in subsequent water price control reviews.
Between 2014 and 2017 I played a central role in Open Water - the Programme to implement the new business retail water market in England and Wales. I was Director of Market Services at MOSL a company formed to be the new market operator. I built MOSL's organisational capability in market design and governance, system design, testing and acceptance, market readiness, assurance and performance monitoring. I developed its operating model and recruited and trained teams needed to implement it and was a member of the dynamic and flexible Senior Leadership Team overseeing all aspects of the start-up and successful market implementation.
